Everyone is welcome at Central United Methodist Church, especially first-time visitors. Here is some information you might like to know about us:
How do I get to Central and what about parking?
Central is at 14 N. Lewis Street, Staunton, at the corner of Lewis and Beverley Streets. Here are directions from I-81: Take Exit 221A onto US 250 West. Stay on US 250 West for approximately two miles into Staunton. As you enter Staunton you will turn right as US 250 intersects US 11, then pass under the train tracks. Immediately after the train overpass, bear left, remaining on US 250W. In downtown Staunton, US 250W will turn right and head uphill, crossing Beverley Street. Stay on US 250W to the next intersection and turn left onto Frederick Street. Stay on Frederick Street through two stop lights (crossing over Lewis Street) and you’ll see Central’s main parking lot on your left. If you turn left onto Lewis Street, Central will be on your right.

What time is the worship service?
The worship service begins at 11:00 and usually lasts until near noon. Afterwards, we hope you’ll stick around so we can spend some time in fellowship with you in the gathering room, just outside the sanctuary. Our Sunday School program begins at 9:30.
What is the expected dress?
You are welcome at Central regardless of your outfit! On a typical Sunday you will see all kinds of clothes–some ladies in dresses, some in slacks or jeans, some men in suits, some wearing polo shirts, etc.
What do kids do during the service?
Central provides a nursery for babies. It is located next to the gathering room, just outside the Sanctuary. Toddlers and older children are invited to begin worship with their parents in the Sanctuary. Following the Children’s Focus, children under 6 years of age may go to the play room which is adjacent to the nursery. We welcome the participation of the youngest members of the family of faith!
What is Central’s worship style?
Every church has its own style of worship.
Central, the founding United Methodist Church in this section of Virginia, has always had a traditional worship style. Everyone is encouraged to participate in communion, which is held the first Sunday morning of each month.
What is Central known for?
As detailed on the History section of this website, Central is the original United Methodist Church in the area, being founded in 1797. Central is a very friendly, welcoming church where you’ll find a diverse group of individuals worshiping God every Sunday. Central is well known for its many mission projects which includes operating a Food Pantry every Wednesday.
We hope you’ll find us to be a welcoming congregation and one that would encourage and value your participation.
